Scholarships for KATS (Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society)

The Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society scholarship is a scholarship opportunity made available every year to members of the KATS with an amount of $500.

Recipients of the KATS scholarship award can only receive the fund only once. So if you have qualified for the KATS scholarship before, you are no longer eligible to apply again.

The mode of application is online via the official Website and all applicants are encouraged to complete their online application and submit latest by February 15.

Mode of selection for KATS Scholarship

Successful candidates are screened based on a combination of academic performance record and achievement, character, athletic training abilities, desire to pursue a career in athletic training, and must be a current member of the KATS organization.

The scholarship award selection does not take much time and usually, recipients are notified of the scholarship in March.

The presentation of the award falls within the time that the KATS annual meeting at the District V MAATA Annual Symposium is held. The winners are invited to the Symposium and presented with the scholarship award value. The winner also qualifies to receive complimentary registration to the MAATA meeting.

Eligibility Criteria for KATS Scholarship Award

  • Interested candidates for the scholarship award must be currently enrolled as an athletic training student at the collegiate level in the state of Kansas.
  • To be eligible, the students must be a current members of KATS. Students who are members of the NATA automatically qualify to apply for the KATS scholarship.
  • A Cumulative and Major GPA of “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or higher is required to stand a chance in the scholarship pool.
  • An endorsement by KATS or NATA to confirm that the student is in good standing with the Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Note: An athletic trainer can only endorse one applicant per application cycle. But they can write letters of recommendation for more than one candidate.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a profession in athletic training.
  • Applicants are required to complete and submit all application materials as presented.
  • Applicants must upload their unofficial transcript as a PDF from their respective university/college.
  • The application must be backed up by submitting a current resume as supporting documents along with other documents.

Important information regarding KATS Scholarship

Kindly note that while saving your documents, you should ensure that it is saved with your last name, criteria (eg. lastname_resume).

Applicants are advised to forward three letters of recommendation from someone who they feel would best judge their qualifications and abilities in the areas of academics and athletic training. However, one of the letters should come from the endorsing athletic trainer. The other two may come from the academic head of the department, team physician, professor, counselor, coach, etc.
