Bright Flight Scholarship Application and Requirements

Bright Flight Scholarship Program is designed to encourage top-ranked high school seniors to attend approved Missouri post-secondary schools. 

The scholarship opportunity is open only to students who have completed their secondary education. The scholarship is merit-based and students must be on top of their academic performance in order to be a recipient of the Bright Flight Scholarship award. 

We discuss the requirements below but not that you have to be a Missouri resident and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to apply. 

A level of academic achievements is expected as the Bright Flight Scholarship is completely merit-based. Therefore, candidates must have a composite score on the ACT or SAT in the top 5% of all Missouri students taking those tests. 

The percentile of the candidate will determine the amount he or she will get from the Bright Flight Scholarship Foundation.

The Bright Flight Scholarship is awarded to students who have completed their secondary education and are currently enrolled in a post-secondary study program or currently attending colleges and universities in selected schools in Missouri.

Eligibility Requirements for the Bright Flight Scholarship 2021/2022

Below are the eligibility criteria all applicants must fulfill to qualify for the scholarship:

  • Applicants must be a citizen of the United States and the state of Missouri
  • Interested candidates must have achieved an ACT or SAT score in the top 3% or the top 5th percentile
  • Applicants must be enrolled in as a first-time student in a participating school in the state of Missouri and take a minimum of 12 semester hours
  • Applicants must submit a complete eligibility information before the deadline date set by the MDHEWD (Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development)
  • The Bright Flight Scholarship is not open to students pursuing an undergraduate degree program or any type of degree/certificate in the field of theology or divinity.

Upon submission, the candidate’s application will be reviewed along with the SAT or ACT score and their chosen Missouri college/university by the MDHEWD. After reviewing, they will receive their letters of approval from the MDHEWD.

Breakdown of Bright Flight Scholarship Award to students

Students who score in the top 3% in ACT or SAT are eligible for a $1500 award for each semester ($3000 annually). 

Students between 4% and 5% are eligible for an annual award of up to $1000 or $500 for each semester. 

The total amount awarded, especially on the award for students in the 4% and 5%, however, depends on the amount of funding allocated for the program in the legislative session. 

Note: Interested Applicants must not be pursuing a degree or certificate in theology or divinity.

High Amount Awarded: $3,000

Low Amount Scholarship Amount: $1,000

Total Amount Awarded: $10,856,464

The Bright Flight Scholarship is only for undergraduate students who are currently attending a university, or a four-year college, a two-year college, or a vocational-tech school as post-secondary education. Applicants must obtain at least a Bright Flight ScholarshipGPA, studying full-time and residing in Missouri.

What is the ACT/SAT score for bright flight Missouri?

Score in the top 3 percent of all Missouri high school students taking the ACT or SAT in their senior year. The minimum ACT is 31, and the minimum on the SAT is 780 math and 790 verbal.

Is Missouri Bright Flight renewable?

Missouri’s Bright Flight Scholarship is for undergraduates who score in the top 3% of the ACT or SAT can renew their scholarship award for up to 10 semesters.
